Interested in strange and exotic creatures
Nathain Aldritch started out as Aitan Al’Drathi, the eldest son of an Idrian Chieftain in the Bloodstone Marches. He grew up learning all his father’s greatest tracking techniques, preparing to one day take command of the tribe. He had an older sister and three younger brothers: twins, followed by the youngest of the children. His mother died in childbirth when this fourth son was born, and there were always strange things about the boy.
When Nathain was seventeen, the Protectorate Of Menoth was just beginning to subsume his tribe into their ranks. Unfortunately, around the same time, it became clear to the family that the youngest son, aged 12 years, had the Gift. When Nathain’s father found out, he cursed the boy, blaming him for the mother’s death. The chieftain was more than willing to turn the gifted child over to the church and let them do with him as they please, but Nathain would not stand for that. He forsook his position in the tribe and fled with his youngest brother, seeking sanctuary in Cygnar, where hopefully the boy could be educated.
It took every ounce of skill and stamina Nathain had to cross the desert with a child in tow, while avoiding Menite patrols and border guards, not to mention savage beasts. Finally they reached the edge of Cygnar, the only hurdle left was to cross the river that made up this portion of the border. Nathain hoisted the boy onto his shoulders and waded into the swift current. He was normally steady and surefooted, but days of constant travel had taken its toll, and he slipped on a loose rock. He quickly regained his footing, but the damage was done. His brother had been swept off and was being carried away toward the sea, and Nathain knew he would not survive. There was no way for Nathain to reach him.
He crawled ashore and lay there, the weight of his failure pushing him down into the mud. But he had made it to Cygnar. He was found the next morning by a Morrowan priest, who took him into the abbey and cared for him for several days. Nathain became a permanent resident of the abbey for the next five years, where he learned to adapt to Cygnaran customs and speech, and changed his name. At 22, he left to join the Cygnaran army, hoping to fight back against the rival nation that had torn his family apart. He served loyally for several years, but then he tried to join the elite Rangers and put his true skills to better use. This triggered a more thorough background check, during which the military discovered his true heritage. He was discharged, and exiled from Cygnar.
He has been working as a mercenary ever since, finding any way he can to fight back against the Protectorate. Recently he has had the nagging feeling that somewhere out there his brother still lives, and has begun to dedicate his funds to the search.
